IOMSPC view Incat fastcraftArtist's impression of Incat 029 in Steam Packet livery. Today it has been announced that the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company have been to Incat's yard in Hobart, Australia, to view the 74-metre fastcraft Incat 029. The craft, which has seen very low service hours in the last 16 years, would be 'ideal' for service with the Steam Packet Company, says CEO Paul Logan. Among members to view the craft was Steam Packet Company skipper Captain James Welden, who has been an Incat 'expert' since arriving at the Steam Packet Company in 1996. The craft has been laid up since 2005 after returning from charter in the Mediterranean, and has had a good reliability record throughout her career according to Incat. It has been rumoured the craft could be acquired for as little as £2m, and if a deal was pressed ahead the craft could be in service as early as May 2009. The company has so far made no further comment on if the craft would be purchased since confirming they viewed the craft yesterday.
